The two-minute application

The whole trick is geometry: approach from the side. A hand descending over a pet's face reads as a threat and triggers the flinch that makes eye care miserable for everyone. From beside the head, rest your palm under the chin and tilt it gently upward — most animals settle within a breath or two.

Hold the tube like a pencil above the eye, an inch clear of it, and squeeze out a quarter-inch ribbon of gel — onto the surface itself or into the pocket of the lower lid, whichever your patient tolerates. The tube never needs to touch the eye, and keeping it clear keeps the tip clean.

Release, and let the blink do the spreading. One or two blinks carry the gel across the whole surface; there is nothing to rub in. Follow immediately with a treat — not affection, food — so the tube itself starts predicting something good. By the second week, most owners report the patient arrives at the sound of the cap.

Rhythm beats volume. A small ribbon morning and evening outperforms a flood applied whenever someone remembers. Cap tight between uses, tube stored clean, and an opened tube used within its labelled window.
